The Leukocyte-Increasing Effect of the Saline Extracts Prepared from the Various Tissues of the Rabbits Administered with ACTH

Abstract
The author observed, using rabbits, the leukocyte-increasing effect of the saline extracts prepared from the liver, the spleen, the kidney or the bone marrow tissues of the .rabbits with or without a single intravenous dose of 3 units of ACTH per kg. body weight. The results. thus obtained were as follows:
1. All the extracts prepared from the tissues of the normal rabbits and the rabbits administered with ACTH showed the leukocyte-increasing effect represented by pseudoeosinophilia.
2. The leukocyte-increasing effect of the extracts prepared from the tissues of the rabbits at 3 or 24 hours following the administration of ACTH was almost eiual to that of the extracts prepared from the similar tissues of the normal rabbits.
3. The leukocyte-increasing effect of the extracts prepared from the tissues of the rabbits at 5 or 7 hours following the ACTH administration was more marked than that of the extracts prepared from the tissues at 3 or 24 hours following the administration of ACTH.
4. The leukocyte-increasing effect of the extracts prepared from the liver and spleen of the rabbits administered with or without ACTH was more marked than that of the kidney and the bone marrow extract. However there was no difference between the liver and the spleen extract and between the kidney and the bone marrow extract.
5. It is presumed that the leukocyte-increasing factor demonstrated by many investigator in the circulating blood of the animals administered with ACTH seems to be derived from many organs, chiefly from the liver and the spleen.
